Trying different approaches to studying

I have an A&P class tonight, We are studying the respiratory system. Friday, I read one hour of the chapter in our textbook. Tough stuff. That gas exchange has a lot of chemistry components.

 Saturday, I reread some of the hard stuff, with no more understanding that than I had before. No problem.I then listened to my smart pen class lecture.  I have more familiarity with what I need to know.

 Sunday I listened to the respitory system from Anatomy and physiology for Dummies on my kindle. It does a good job explaining. Not really easier, just different.

Monday, I looked up pathology fo the respiratory system. Very interesting stuff. Did you know fungus can grow in the lungs? Me neither. I looked at the histology (cell sized) of lung tissue, and of regular sized pictures of diseased lungs.

 Today, I’ll draw the lungs and other aspects of the respiratory system. So when I go to class to-night, I’ll have the best possible idea of what  questions to ask my professor.

I want a good understanding of what I’m learning. I know it’s key to becoming a good nurse. Learning all I can, every way I can.

The weather is much better here today, and the post office is open, so I’m going to walk on over and mail my taxes. I need to get that going so I have money for you, know, stuff. Oh, wait, I try not to own too much stuff. Let’s just say, I’ll use the money for a little thing I like to call ‘mortgage’.

I’m getting better at studying.

I have more of my day worked out. I have better tools now. When I started school, I used pencils and spiral bound notebooks. That was it. I’m not mathematical, or really science intuitive. So I struggled a lot. I got my friend the smart pen. What a difference that’s making. I really need to hear the lectures again, at my pace. I did not know I’m a listening learner. I thought I was a visual, and kinetic learner. It turns out I’m all three. I absolutely need to hear, touch and see to learn. Hey, hey! That makes everything easier. I just needed to learn about myself to learn about everything else.

I copied down what I wanted to remember the first half hour, then I listened to the chapter on my PC for the next half hour. I made up some index cards to make a game for myself. Then I took a break. Wash rinse and repeat.

I picked up my truck from the mechanics. It need a new radiator. Two days ago it needed the injectors cleaned out. My walking was timely. I might be getting down to just one vehicle, and I don’t own that one. Walking it is. I think I’ll need to invest in long johns. I think about getting a pair every time I go for a walk. By the time I buy them, it’ll be June.

I got a Smart Pen!

What fun these are. I know I mentioned that I was in school now. The woman that sits next to me in A&P II has one of these.  She sent me her notes for the day I was sick. The files she sent had written notes and audio. Amazing. I’m configuring my pen now. I hope all goes well with it because I have a test on Thursday in A&P.

 I’m still walking. I have not weighed in though.
